Eight African penguins went home on Friday 9 November 2012 when staff members of the Two Oceans Aquarium and the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) released them back into the wild near a Robben Island beach.

On 18 October, leading South African seafood producer and founding Two Oceans Aquarium partner, I&J, furthered its support of the Aquarium’s conservation efforts with a R30 000 donation towards their sea turtle rehabilitation programme. During the launch of I&J’s sustainability report, amidst a gathering of suppliers, distributors and media, I&J CEO Ronald Fasol handed over a cheque to Aquarium aquarist Kevin Spiby.

Damselfish in distress? Sickly steenbras? An out-of-sorts octopus?

Quarantine Aquarist Nicholas Nicolle – or Nicnic to his colleagues – has seen it all. As the resident “fish doctor” at the Two Oceans Aquarium, he’s in charge of the quarantine section: a private “ward’ away from the public galleries where new animals come to before being introduced to the resident fish.
